Entry Pavilion

Brandeis University

Waltham, MA  USA

Client: Brandeis University

Scope: New 200 sf entry pavilion; information center; perforated copper panels; glass curtainwall

As Brandeis’ new entry point for all visitors and students to the campus, the striking copper pavilion was designed to reflect the modern, progressive mission of the University. The pavilion will house an information desk, including a digital display announcing upcoming events and activities.

The double-height pavilion is clad with vertical panels of perforated copper screening a glass curtainwall. The custom-designed panels provide a delicate balance of transparency and opacity, openness and privacy. Natural light filters through the perforated copper, brightening the interior space by day, while alternately creating a glowing lantern affect by night. The bright copper will weather over time to a greenish patina, echoing the façade of the Campus Center also designed by Charles Rose Architects.
