Client: The Foote School, a private school for grades K-9

Scope: Gymnasium, black-box theater, and a building for art and music

The Foote School, situated on a wooded campus overlooking Yale University, commissioned us to design buildings that are at the heart of the school’s mission of sparking creativity and developing mind and spirit in young students. We also viewed this commission as an opportunity to create architecture to help define a central landscape and a more natural flow to how students and teachers move around the campus. Our plan put the black-box theater in a prominent position, near the school’s entrance, and also sited the gym and music/arts building so that the three together form a well-defined central landscape. The new structures are small in scale and compliment the campus’ existing structures.
